The conference was subordinated to a bank restructuring supporting project funded by the JICA. The participants were representatives from the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), the JICA, the DICJ; leaders and officers from the DIV.
The conference’s purpose was to raise awareness of deposit insurer’s role in (i) dealing with bad debts and bank restructuring; (ii) sharing DICJ’s experience in calculating the deposit insurance coverage limit and premiums; (iii) Giving some policy recommendations on completing the legal framework on deposit insurance andinternal administrative documents in order to improve the effectiveness of the deposit insurance scheme in Vietnam.
Three presentations were delivered at the conference by speakers from the DICJ and the DIV: (i) Mr Katsunorri Mikuniya, DICJ’s Governor– The history of Japan’s banking system, deposit insurance scheme and financial institutions; (ii) Ms Pham Bao Khanh, DIV’s Deputy General Director - An overview of the deposit insurance system in Vietnam; and (iii) Mr Satoshi Ohuchi, Director of Foreign Affairs Department- An overview of the deposit insurance system in Japan.
The conference was a good chance for the two agencies DIV and DICJ to share experience in order to improve professional quality and execute their role of protecting depositors and maintaining financial stability in the two countries. The conference also received many comments, recommendations, experience sharing in deposit insurance from specialists, managers, policy makers and DIV’s leaders.
